A statue creates a shadow that is 30 ft long. The angle of elevation of the sun is 50°.

Draw a diagram that represents this situation.

How tall is the statue? Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot. Show your work.

The shadow represents the adjacent leg to the 50 degree angle of a right triangle....

Opposite leg is the HEIGHT of the statue

Tangent 50 = opposite/30

30 tangent 50 = height = tan(50)*30 = 35.8  ft (rounded)

Can't draw the diagram.....but

tan 50° = height of statue / shadow length

tan 50° = height of statue / 30      multiply both sides by 30

30 * tan (50°) = height of statue  = 35.8 ft
