Hello :)

I was looking for some math help.  I recently started doing math, and am still quite bad at it.

Recently, it feels like I’ve been plateauing and I’m a bit stuck. I’ve been doing a lot of Alcumus, AMCs, and MathCounts Trainer, but it feels like I’m just not improving.

Everyone on this server is so great at math, and I could really use some help or advice.

Are there any websites or books you’d recommend for me to practice?

I am currently taking Geometry in school and would say my math level is around an amc 10/12.

On a side note, thank you to all the answerers on this forum. There have been so many times where I’ve googled a question and was able to understand it because of the responses. Sadly, the posts are usually old and locked so I can’t thank the answerer. I'm learning so much because of you guys.

Thanks,

catmg

It just comes with time and more courses       algebra    geometry      trigonometry       calculus    physics      advanced apllied math                      diferential equations        number theory    and on

and lots of college courses (engineering ) use a LOT of math ....then you will really start expanding......  keep at it !

Thank you. :)))

I shall continue trying, and hopefully one day, I will be good.

College sounds so scary and far away right now.

I know I want to do smth with math, but I'm not sure what yet.

Well..... Look into physics or engineering .....LOTS of advanced math !    ....and you can be a MATH MAJOR too....

I'm really into computer science, so I might want to do that.

Engineering sounds really cool, but I'm really bad when it comes to building.

When I start high school, I'm going to try to figure out what I want to do as a career.

P.S.  It WILL seem like you have plateaued if you spend a lot of time on here....it gets quite repetitive !

I love this website a lot. :))

I think that the people here are very nice, except for the people who use this website to cheat on tests and hw.

The reason I think I've plateaued is cause I've been scoring pretty poorly on the past competitions that I've done.

Recently, I did the MathCounts Chapter Invitational and didn't qualify for state.

I was quite upset because I thought I would, but I made a bunch of mistakes on the test. :((

OMG! I USED TO FEEL LIKE THAT TOO! (Keywords:USED TO)

I was originally doing Kumon, and I felt like I couldn't get any farther with Kumon, so I quit at level H. I then discovered alcumus, like you. My dad encouraged me to do alcumus, and mathcounts trainer as well, and one day, we found out a way to enroll in CLASSES on AOPS. There are SEVERAL different classes, like algebra A and B, intro to Geom, AMC 8, 10, and 12 classes, number theory, probability and counting, etc. I feel like the classes REALLY helped. Tbh, I am only 11, I just REALLY like math, (spend like 1 hour on here a day, 30 minutes school math, another 30 minutes for class homework and alcumus), and I've been improving at an alarming rate. All you have to do is make an account if you haven't already, and look up on your screen, and you will see a few options, hover over online school(If you are on computer. If you are on iOS or android then press it) and select Course catalog. There, you will find a lot of different options of classes. You can press one you feel like doing, and to the right of the summary, there are two links, one to see if you are ready for this class, and one to see if you need it at all. You can keep doing these mini tests, and find one that you are both interested in, and suits you. If there are things you don't understand in the "do I need this" section, then by the end of the course, you will understand it. Hopefully this is helpful, although it is lengthy.

Yesssss, I love AoPS.

I've never done Kumon tho.

I shall look into the classes and books.

Right now, I'm only doing alcumus, ftw, and mathcounts trainer.

For alcumus, I'm kinda stuck on the int alg part, so I might just enroll in that course.

Hopefully I improve. :))

Thanks,

Thanks for your input but I think something you should include if you are giving out advice or suggestions is cost.

Not exact cost, you may not even know that, but just an idea of cost.

In particular, is a resource free, relatively inexpensive or pricey.

It is of key importance to almost everyone.

Good idea; each course lasts around 2-3 months(I just did an intro to geom that lasted half a year), and is pretty pricey, a few hundred dollars ;-;

That is what I thought.

I am sure these pricey courses are fantastic for some students.

But for most students they would not be.

The work would have to be presented at the ideal level and the student would need to be very diligent.

There would also need to be a good help system.  Even if it is only talking to and learning with/from other students.

To learn anything new you need to be able to ask your own questions and learn directly from other people.

This is my experience anyway.

Otherwise it would be like an unused gym membership.  A total waste of money.

Thank you. :))

I just enrolled to the amc 12 class with a friend, it may be slightly too hard for me, but I'm willing to study a bit more.

I've been on AoPS for a while (just not the classes), and I really love the company and I feel like the class will be amazing too.
