Question:
It takes a machine 3 minutes to fill 20 bottles of soda. At this rate how many minutes will it take the machine to fill 48 bottles of soda?
My work:
1. (3min/20 sodas)=(m/48 sodas)
2. 20/3=6.66666667
3. 48/6.6666667=7.2 minutes
My question is should the answer be 7.2 minutes or should I round it to 7 minutes? The question does not state if it wants the exact answer or a rounded full minute. Thanks in advance everyone.
+1712 Some people may leave it as a fraction, hence,
48/1//20/3
then, 3*48/20
144/20
36/5
7.2
Since a da the previous step is 36/5, and I like fractions, I would leave it as 36/5...

Just because a number is written as a decimal doesn't mean it is rounded.
7.2 minutes is not a rounded answer because the answer is exactly 7.2 minutes.
