I was looking at this question earlier, but I could not figure out  an  'r'   common ratio.....   you say it is 1/3....can you explain how you got that?  I do not see it.......    Thanx ! 

You are given   S=18

18 = 30 - r(30)   subtract 30 from both sides of the equation

-12 = - r(30)        Divide both sides by -30

12/30 = r   =  2/5       2/5 x 100% = 40 % = r

When multiplying fractions all you have to do is multiply the top two numbers together (numerators) and the bottom two numbers together (denominators)

2/7  x  4/9  = (2 x 4)  /  ( 7x9)   =  8 / 63

I t means 'not equal'   or 'does not equal'

The HORIZONTAL component of the initial velocity does not change (ignoring air friction or other outside forces).

The Horizontal component is given by

vo cos 40    where vo= original velocity

Wed are given that in FOUR seconds  it travels 38.6 meters    which is a horizotal component of 38.6/4 = 9.65 m/s

Now set these to quantities = to each other and solve for vo

vo cos 40 = 9.65

vo =  9.65 / (cos 40)  = 12.597 m/s

There could be LOTS of answers to this.

Your '6' is upside down.....

Pi x Diameter of Earth = original length

pi x 7,926.41mi x 5280 ft/mile = 131480191.5  ft

add ten feet  = 131480201.5 ft

NEW diameter x pi = 131480201.5

NEW diameter = 41851447.98 ft        

(NEW diameter - original diameter  ) / 2  = height     =   1.5916 ft
