Solve ONE of the questions for ONE of the variables ....then substitute THAT value for the variable into the SECOND equation to solve for the second variable. Like this:
Solve for 'y' 3x +4y = 29
4y = 29 - 3x
y = (29-3x) / 4 Substitute this into the SECOND equation for 'y'
7x + 6y = 41
7x + 6 ( 29-3x)/4 = 41 and solve for 'x'
7x + (174-18x)/4 = 41
7x + 43.5 - 4.5x = 41
2.5x = 41-43.5
2.5x = -2.5
x = -1 NOW, take this value of 'x' and substitute into one of the equations to find the other variable ('y')
3x+4y = 29
3(-1) + 4y = 29 y=8
