If you put x= 0 into the equation to find the y-intercept yo will get y= -1/4(0) +2  = 2

    So the y-intercept is (0,2)    <------ you got that one

Put y=0 to find the x-intercept   0 = -1/4(x) + 2

-2 = -1/4x

-2/(-1/4) = x = 8      so the x-intercept is  (8,0)      Do you see?

After a while you will be able to do these almost 'in your head'....in the meantime, let's set this up as a ratio

.75kg/9.60 = 1kg/x     where 'x' is the price you are looking for

x=1kg x L9.60/.75kg     the kg 'cancels' and you are left with = L 12.80

You should remember that at the y-intercept, x will = 0    , if you substitute x=0 into the equation you will find the y-intercept.

Similarly , at the x-intercept, y=0 ..substitute y=0 into the equation to get the x-intercept.

Similarly Beta ship distance is  tan(beta)  = tan 4 = 350/x      x = 5005.2 ft from lighthouse

the difference between these two distances is the distance between the ships

5005.2 - 2341.9 =  2663.3 ft

So let's sub in the coordinates you are given

So far you have     y = 7/4 x + b                     

If you substitute one of the sets of numbers in this equation you can find 'b'

y=7/4 x + b 

-5 =  7/4 (0) + b

b= -5

So now your line equation is     y = 7/4 x - 5      Substitute point (4,2) in there to see if it is correct !

2 = 7/4(4) -5     Check !

Remeber:  -4 x -4 = + 16       then +16  x -4 = -64
