Can you tell me where you came up with (2y+20) = 5x +40 ???

   I think you could make the assumption that   (2y+20) + 40 = 5x     (reulting in y=25 and x=14)   ???

Let  m = # matinee tix sold      then (378 - m) = # evening tix sold

$6.50 x m   +  $8,75 x (378-m)  = 2929.50

6.5 m          +   3307.5  - 8.75m = 2929.5

2.25m                                         =-378

m= 168 matinee tix were sold                           210 evening tix were sold

  Agree with what you are saying, but I think this question is more likely  what a MATURE tree will do year after year  ..in growing leaves and increasing girth..which would be APPROXIMATLY constant .(but actually it would be increasing as you pointed out....especially as the tree is a sapling and growing to maturity)....good call, but I just answered the question with the info given....

It can be defined as Opposite leg / Adjacent leg in right triangles. 

It is also defined as  SIN / COS  for a given angle .

I think I need some clarification.....

Complimentary angles are angles that ADD to 90 degrees.

For an angle to have a NEGATIVE cosine it has to to be >90

Did you meant SUPPLEMENTARY angles (which add to 180 degrees)

Am I missing something in my thinking?   Would  120 degrees and -30 degrees be considered 'complimentary' ?
