 I am disappointed that you didn't even try to answer this question yourself even after I gave you step-by-step instructions (which you SHOULD understand if you are truly at this level) .   Those same steps are what Chris used to 'give you your answer.'   I even supplied a graph with the intermediate and final answer posted and graphed.....did you even bother to look at them or try to understand???   I believe you are here just to 'get an answer' and move on....not to understand or learn anything...just to get your homework done.  I will not bother with anymore of your Q's but not to worry, there are others on this forum who will just 'give you the answers' you seek.     ~EP

...after you get the decimal comparison of how far they are compared to the nearest star  (.765 in my example)  multiply by 100% to get the percentage....     76.5 % of the way to the star   etc

   or more likely , you will find something like   .0000765 of the distance to the star....  x 100 = .00765 %   or  7.65 x 10^-3 % in scientific notation

First, set the equations =

2x^2+kx+6 = -x+4        collect like terms

2x^2 + x(k+1) +2 = 0    now, if the discriminant = 0 there is only one root

b^2 - 4ac = 0

(k+1)^2 - 4 (2)(2) = 0

k^2 +2k +1 - 16 =0

k^2 + 2k -15 =0

(k+5)(k-3) = 0       so k = -5 or  3      Q asks for the negative value    -5

We will need to know those interest rates !  .....and the initial investment amount...

Divide the distances of the satellites by the distance to the nearest star....

   then    satellite A will be something like 1 /30 th   or  .765  the distance of the nearest star    (examples)

Parabolas are symmetric.....the other zero will be the sam distance from the vertex as the one given...

from -2 to 3 is five units.....the other zero should be at   8,0

At the y-intercepts , x =0   so set the equation = 0 and solve for y

0 = -y^2+4y-4      use Quadratic Formula to find 'y' = 2    (only one root at y=2)  so only ONE y=intercept

Alternatively , the discriminant    b²-4ac = 0  

                                                   4²-4(-1)(-4)= 0      so only ONE root (One y intercept)
