Similarly:

rate x time = distance           or      distance/rate = time

36/(20-c) + 22/(20+c)  =3

36 (20+c)  + 22(20-c) = 3 (20+c)(20-c)

720 +36c +440-22c = 3 (400-c^2)

1160 +14c= 1200-3c^2

3c^2 +14c -40 =0          Using quadratic formula    c = 2 km/hr

x = bike accidents

.25 x = bike accidents with serious head bonks

    80 % 0f these are fatal

         .80   *  .25 x  = fatal bike accidents

               .20 x = fatal bike accidents

                    20 % of bike accidents are fatal     Don't be stupid .....or dead....wear your brain bucket !!!!!

Hmmmmmm.....   average m/g = 30 m/g      and   g = 26

   then    26 g * 30 m/g = 780 miles

Here is the long way:

Looking for miles

30 m/g  * (17+9) g    = miles total  =       17 g  * (x+6.5 )  m/g    +  9 g * x m/g

30 ( 26)    =  17 (x+ 6.5) + 9x

780 = 17x + 110.5  + 9x

780 - 110.5 = 26x

669.5 = 26x

x = 25.75 m/g                         17 (25.75 +6.5)  + 9(25.75)  = 780 m

1/r  +  1/ g   =  1/3

1/7   + 1/g = 1/3       solve for g, Gulia's rate

1/g = 1/3 - 1/7

1/g = 4/21

g = 21/4 hr

You're welcome!

See previous posting for methodology......

# 5   calculate the area of the WHOLE flag    =    fly x hoist

there are 7 red stripes.....each strip has an area of   1/13 hoist   x   fly

    there are 7 of them     7 x 1/13 hoist x fly    = red area (almost)

   BUT   4 of the stripes are shorter....you must subtract the area of the stripes that are missing

                  width of a stripe x 4  x (Union fly) = area to be subtracted from the red area calculated area above

THEN probability of landing on red   =    red area/ total area of flag                 Do you see?  go through it slowly and understand each step !

This is a poorly worded problem......it does not say that he gave 1/3 of what was left after giving 1/4 away.....who knows what is meant by

'He sells 1/4 of his cards to Tom, 1/3 of his cards to Larry.'      I interpreted it as he gave 1/4 of total and 1/3 of total ....then how much is left?

you interpreted it as    gives 1/4     then gives 1/3 of the remainder to Larry.....    both of our answers are correct !

Pleae stop posting this same question until YOU have attempted an answer with the info given in your previous three posting of this question !!!!!!!!!!

   we are not here to give you answers.....but rather to give you methods to reach a solution !!

butter of ingredienats = butter of final product

m= amount of milk

c = amount of cream = 20 - m

.03 m    +   .15 (20-m)  = .06 (20)     solve for m, the amount of 3% milk    then cream = 20 - m
