This has always been an area of math I've lagged behind in, being for some reason daunted by it. But with your thorough explanation combined with that amazing link, that lag is suddenly no longer. I believe the answers to the other two are:

"In how many different ways can you arrange 9 blue blocks and 9 red blocks in a straight line?"

735 probably wins...
This problem has been tormenting me for the last 15 minutes and I definitely suspect that its one of those impossible combinations.
My suggestion:
Since a combination that is impossible is frustrating and confusing, perhaps the best way to play this would be for the person
who composes the combination to begin with the magic number and then divide, subtract, multiply and/or add numbers backwards
until it equals zero. This way the combination will always be possible and we won't have to worry about nasty impossible ones
creeping up every now and then. Of course that person won't be able to compete, but that's
not really much of a problem at all.

By the way, do you know whether the system you gave to devise numbers and the magic number is flawless? Like are there any possible combinations that won't have an answer (are impossible) or does the system automatically garuntee the perfect playability of any and all possible combinations?
