Are you Romanian?

A packet of sugar was used to fill up 2 identical containers. Judy used half the sugar from the first container and 3/4 of the sugar from the second container. If the total amount of sugar left in the 2 containers is 255g, how much sugar was there in the packet at first?

There is a half left in one and 1/4 left in the other so there is 3/4 of  one container left

If you average these then you get 3/8 of the original sugar is left.

3/8 of  S = 255

s = 255 divided by 3/8

from the forum calculator:

255/(3/8) = 680

The original packet had 680g of sugar.

check

1/2 of 680 = 340

1/2 of 340= 170

1/4 of 340 = 85

170 + 85 = 255 g   good :)

2/5 of Jenna's stamps was equal to 1/4 of Anne's stamps. If Anna had 18 more stamps than Jenna, how many stamps did Jenna have?

0.4J = 0.25A

0.4/0.25 * J=A

so

1.6 * J = J+18

0.6J=18

J = 18 / 0.6
