I believe you made a small mistake Alan. It is 3+a

$$x^3y^3x^4y^a=x^7\\

x^7y^{3+a}=x^7\\

y^{3+a}=1\\

y^{3+a}=y^0\\

3+a=0\\

a=\: -3\\$$

You have found the inverse function anonymous person. By adding the y= you have assumed that it was supposed to be an equation. That is fair enough it didn't make sense otherwise.

Yes that is correct - although I would have stuck to (356+1)/2 = 178.5

I really want people to learn LaTex because you can write almost any math thing in there and once you get used to it it is quick quick.

This is an arithmetic sequence (AP)

The first time is 4 and the comon difference is 6
