Hi friends,

I trust you are all well...please help with a word sum...it's a bit above me...smiley

Ben and Angie go shopping. The both have the same amount of money, m, at the beginning of the day.

At the end of the day, Ben had spent R60, and Angie R350. Give an expression in terms of m to illustrate how much money they have spent individually.

I said:

\(Ben = x\)

\(Angie = y \)

\(x=m-60\)

\(y=m-350\)

2) When they compared their money at the end of the day, they calculated that Angie had 3/5 of what Ben had left. How much money did Angie have at the beginning of the day?

All and any help will be greatly appreciated..thank you all kindly..

2)

m - 350 ==3/5 * (m - 60), solve for m

m - 350 ==0.60m - 36

m - 0.60m ==- 36 + 350

0.40m ==314

m ==R 785 - what Angie and Ben started with.

785 - 350 ==R 435 - whta Angie had left at the end of the day

785 - 60 = =R 725 - what Ben had left at the end of rhe day.

435 ==3/5 * 725 ==435
