A right triangle with opposite leg 18 m   and the adjacent leg  12 m 

angle of elevation = arc tan ( 18/12) = ~ 56 degrees

d = hypotenuse of the right triangle = distance to the plane from point P 

sin 23 = 1200 / d 

d = 1200 / sin 23 =~ 3071.2 m    

Find 'd' the common difference :

From a1 to a30  is 30 terms   ( 29 d's)

 From 30 to 80 is fifty  d's 

7 + 29 d = value of 30th term

      then for the 80th term    (7+29d) + 50 d   = 2(  7 + 29 d ) 

                                                                      7 + 79 d       = 14 + 58 d 

                                                                          -7 = -21 d 

                                                                             d = 1/3                       a1 = 7    then a30 = 16 2/3    a80 =  33 1/3        Check !

So 40th term    7 + 39 ( 1/3)  = 20 

y = -2x^2 + 8x + 15 - 3x^2 + 7x - 25

y = -5 x^2 + 15x -10             arrrange to vertex form by completing the square for 'x'

y = - 5 ( x^2- 3x)    -10 

y = -5 (x - 1.5)^2   + 11.25 -10 

y = -5 (x- 1.5)^2 + 1.25                                  shows vertex (h,k) is at   ( 1.5, 1.25 )

Much easier to answer this if we had the graph to which the post refers.... 

=     x = 2y^2 - 13y -1     arrange into vertex form 

         x = 2 ( y^2 - 6.5 y)  - 1

            = 2 ( y- 3.25)^2  - 29 1/8        shows vertex = (  - 22 1/8  ,  3.75  ) 

=   x^2 + 4x -12 <= x^2 + 14

              4x - 12 <= 14

               4x <= 26 

                  x <= 26/4            or       x:   ( -∞ , 6.5]   

 = x^2 +12x      + y^2 - 16y    = -8         complete the square for 'x' and 'y'

(x+6)^2     +  (y-8)^2     = -8 + 36 + 64 

(x+6)^2 + (y-8)^2 = 92               <=======   this is a circle centered at (-6, 8)   with radius   sqrt (92) 

                                                         the minimum point will be sqrt (92)  below the center  :   ( -6, 8-sqrt(92) ) 

                                                                  so the minumum VALUE would be  8 - sqrt (92)
