No big deal....everyone makes mistakes.....

x^4   + x^2 - 20  =  0      factor

(x^2 + 5) (x^2 - 4)  = 0

(x^2 + 5)  ( x - 2) ( x + 2)  = 0

Set each factor to 0...and solve for x

x  - 2  = 0       x +  2  = 0       x^2 + 5  = 0

x  =  2             x  =  -2           x^2  =  -5         take both roots

                                              x = ±√-5

                                              x  = ±√5 i

So....the solutions are

You have the correct idea....but a lttle mistake on the math

Derivative   =   6x  + 1

Set  =   to the slope of the line

6x + 1   =  4      

6x  = 3

x  =  3/6  = 1/2

And   y  =   3(1/2)^2  + 1/2   =  5/4

So.....the point  is   ( 1/2, 5/4)    and the equation of the line is

y  = 4(x - 1/2)  + 5/4

y = 4x - 2 + 5/4

y  = 4x - 3/4
