Find the slope of the line 5x + 2y + 9 = 0

In the form    ax + by + c  = 0

The slope is just    -a / b

So

a = 5       b  =  2

And the slope is     - 5 / 2

Find the slope of the line y = 7x + 2.

This is easy, Android.....

In the form 

y  = mx + b

The slope is just  m

So

y = 7x + 2

So...the slope  is   7

[ y - 2 ]  

______     =  - 3

[ 9 - 5 ]

[ y - 2 ]

______   =     - 3            mutiply both sides by  4

    4

y -  2  =   - 12          add 2 to both sides

y  =  -10

What is the midpoint of the segment between ( -4, 9 ) and ( 28, -29 )?

Midpoint

(  add x coordinates  and divide by 2,  add y coordinates and divide by 2 )

So .....

[   (-4 + 28) / 2  ,  ( 9 +  -29) / 2  ]  =

[ 24 / 2 ,  -20 / 2 ]  =

[ 12, -10 ]

A line with slope  ?????  passes through the points ( 5, 2 ) and (9, y ) Find y

Find the slope of the line joining the points ( -2, 5 ) and (8, -7 )

Slope   =    [  subtract the y coordinates in any order ]

                  ___________________________________

                  [ subtract the x coordinates in the same order]

So we have

[ -7 - 5]               - 12               - 6

_______   =      _____    =      ____    =  the slope

[ 8 - - 2]               10                  5

x / 6   +  x / 3   =  3        multiply every  term by 6

x + 2x   =  18     

3x  = 18      divide both sides by  3

x  =  6

5x /3 - 3x /4   = 11/6       multiply every term by 12

20x  - 9x  =  22

11x  =   22     divide both sides by  11

x  =   2

Total amount  / Total Days  =   27  /10   =  2.7 pounds per day

I tried to work on  both sides at once, but got nowhere.....your "one side at a time " approach is way  better..... [but definitely not brief....LOL!!!! ]

P. S.  -  We don't know the answer to EVERY math question...but....we know the answers to quite a few.....!!!
