We need to know the height and the length of a side.

The slant height is given by

√[(1/4)s^2 + h^2]    where s is the side length and h is the height

Alternatively...if we know the height and the angle  - θ  -  that the side of the pyramid makes with the base along one edge [ not at a vertex, though!!! ], we can use

slant height = height / sin θ  

 Copy the first two columns again

The determinant is  give by    [( 1 * -1 * 1) + (0) + (0)] - [ (2 * -1 * 1) + (1 *-2 * 1) + 0] =

 (x^2 - 4x)/(sqrt(x))    We could use the quotient rule here, but we can simplify this, thusly...

x^2/x^(1/2)   -  4x / x^(1/2)  =

x^(3/2)  - 4x^(1/2)     ...and now it's easy.....

The derivative is

(3/2)x^1/2 - 2x^(-1/2)

And that's it....!!.....no messy quotient rule to worry about.....!!!

7/ 8  = .875

To find the hypotenuse:

Square the 8   .....Square the 6

Add the squares together

Take the square root of this result  .... this will be the hypotenuse.....

Hint......the answer has "zero" as its last digit  !!!
