If each child can be in only one class then

mental maths = 8*15

science = 15*18

Adv maths = 16*17

then add them all together.

If some kids can be in more than one class then we would need more information. :)

The minimum number of children would be 272.

The maximum number (assumeing that they each select on otf thes subjects) is 726.

That is if I pressed the correct buttons on my calculator :)

Do you mean for simultaneous equations like these?

\(5x-3y=8\quad(1)\\ 12x-3y=5\quad(2)\\ \mbox{Here you would subtract because }-3y- -3y=-3y+3y=0 \\~\\ 5x-12x-3y- -3y=8-5\\ -7x = 3\\ x=-3/7\)

Then sub in to find y  :)

so

L+B=49
