A certain stock measures 0.875 inch in diameter. What does this measure, to the nearest 1/16 inch, with an outside caliper and a scale?

I think I have interpreted your question properly but I am not certain.

0.875/2 = 0.4375

The real measurment would be    \(0.0875\pm0.4375\;inches \)

Nothing is wrong with leaving it in the numerator KatieLeigh,

BUT normally it would be rewritten as xvxvxv first presented it.  I would consider it more 'simple' if it is written as a fraction.

Guest was right though - the question specifically asked for it all to be left in the numerator :)

Just test them one at a time and work out which is true

A- (3,4)

x=3   y=4

4x-5=4*3-5 = 12-5 = 7      Is 4 greater than 7 ?  NO so this point does NOT to make the startement true.

Now try B C and D one at a time and see which pair of numbers makes the inequality true :)

B- (2,1)

C- (3,0)

D- (1,1)

What Polynomial must be added to X^2-2x+6 so that the sum is 3x^2+7x?

well

\(x^2 +   2x^2 = 3x^2\\ -2x+ 9x=7x\\ 6+ -6 = 0\\ so\\ x^2-2x+6\quad +\quad 2x^2+9x-6 = 3x^2+7x\)

So the polynomial that you seek is

\(2x^2+9x-6\)
