Well if it has 3 significant figures it should be written as 0.500

On the web2 calc  press [2nd] [atan]  value

atan stands for arc tan which is the same as inverse tan :)

What  #1 said is true, they can be used for a whole range of problems but when you learn that 

\(tan\theta=\frac{opp}{hyp}\)

etc,

That ONLY applies to right angled triangles :)

I think it is reasonable to assume that this is a direct variation question.

a. Use the fact that x=39 when y=-117 to find the constant of variation and write the equation of variation.

b. Find the value of x when y= -132.

\(y=kx\\ -117=k*39\\ k=\frac{-117}{39}\\~\\ y=\frac{-117}{39}*x\\ When y = -132\\ -132=\frac{-117}{39}*x\\ -132*\frac{-39}{117}=x\\ x=\frac{132*39}{117}\)

132*39/117 = 44

When      y=-132      x=44

I just moved the point 14 places to get     7.142857142857142857142857142857

For standard form I have to have exaclt one non-zero digit infront of the point .

so the answer is 

\(7.142857142857142857142857142857 \times 10^{14}\)

A number is divisable by 4 if the last 2 digits are divisable by 4

for example

Is    30 346   divisable by 4?        46/4 is not a whole number      SO     30 346 is NOT divisable by 4

Is    7368    divisable by 4?         68/4 = 17 and that is a whole number     so     7368 IS divisable by 4!

1984 by George Orwell is a very famous book Hayley and Coldplay.  It is dated now as I think it was written in 1948.  (that might be wrong, I just have that in my head)

Anyway it is only a little book and very readable and older people refer to it ALL the time.  It is quite thought provoking. It is written about a possible future where the gov't know all and people are very controlled.  SOME of the things in the book have become reality.  Others, not so much.

If you read at all I think that you should put this one on your list :)
