\(f(x) = \left\{ \begin{array}{cl} 2x + 1 & \text{if } x \le 3, \\ 8 - 4x & \text{if } x > 3. \end{array} \right.\ \)
Find the sum of all values of x such that f(x) = 0
0 = 2x + 1 subtract 1 from each side
-1 = 2x divide both sides by 2
-1/2 = x
And
0 = 8 - 4x add 4x to both sides
4x = 8 divede both sides by 4
x = 2 [ not in the domain of the second function ]
So the sum of all values such that f(x) = 0 is just -1/2
